ECO-SCHOOL
After SUSI 2012 has ended, I plan to start another Personal Action Plan instead of my previous one. In Boulder, I have visited to Eco-Cycle that is working on Zero-Waste Communities. It is a Non-Profit Organisation that recycle all kind of recyclable. I was inspired by this project and I think that it will be more feasible in my hometown.
On 20th June 2012, a presentation is prepared and presented to the headmaster of S.J.K.C Mentakab (1) - Mr. Chen Teo Wah (as shown in picture).
He was agreed to cooperate with me to transform this school to become Eco-Green School. The first step we will do is to ban plastic bag inside school area. The plastic bag is very common in canteen as pupils always use it when they take away the food.
The second step we will do is to encourage students to change their water bottle to reusable water bottle. Plastic bottle will not be banned immediately as they should be given some time to change their water bottle.
The third step is changing from polystyrene food container to biodegradable food container. Mr.Chen will communicate with canteen to change their food container from polystyrene to biodegradable or they will tax on polystyrene food container that requested by students.
The next step that will implementing within few months time is a book shelf for unwanted book donation. This is what I saw from Hale Manoa, University of Hawaii.
Next, all classroom will be given a box for students to throw their paper to be recycled. Students will be requested to draw some poster and put on notice board to remind themselves about importance of recycling. Besides that, poster regarding "energy saving policy" and "water saving policy" will come out within these few months and stick on the wall near plug and water-tap.
Other than that, we are going to have an organic form and the fresh organic food will be served in school canteen. This school farm is going to be the very first organic farm in this district (Mentakab).
